Dissertation Abstract:

Managing Innovation Contests: Challenges of Facilitation

My dissertation deals with the management of web-based innovation contests and in particular with challenges of facilitation on the provided online platform, i.e. the assistance of participants in the web-based innovation contest. Facilitation can play a crucial role in establishing and sustaining an innovation contest and - from an organizer's as well as participant's point of view - in achieving high satisfaction with the innovation contest and its outcome. By analyzing expired innovation contests and, in addition, by self-organizing and conducting innovation contests, I propose to investigate facilitation in regards to its tasks, impact and design.

I undertake explorative as well as exploitative research to meet my research goals which are listed below:

  • Identifying the critical tasks that should be taken into consideration when facilitating participants in innovation contests.
  • Understanding the importance and impact of facilitation in innovation contests.
  • Identifying most important instruments and steps for designing and implementing facilitation in innovation contests.

Key words: open innovation, innovation contests, facilitation, online platform
