Sustainable Smart Industry - The Industrial Internet of Things as a Model for Sustainable Industrial Value Creation

Industry 4.0 refers to the intelligent digitisation and interlinking of industrial value creation. The German government's High-Tech Strategy sees Industry 4.0 as an essential project for the future to preserve Germany's global competitiveness.

The aim of the research project "Sustainable Smart Industry - The Industrial Internet of Things as a Model for Sustainable Industrial Value Creation" is to identify the various potential benefits and challenges of implementing Industry 4.0 beyond the technical aspects that have so far been primarily investigated, with a particular and integrative consideration of economic, ecological and social aspects in interaction with technological developments and solutions. A balancing of interdependencies between opportunities and risks at all three levels of sustainability will be developed for a normative model of sustainable industrial value creation, which can be differentiated according to various value creation typologies. For business practice, specific integration strategies for industry 4.0 can thus be derived.
